Today Kennedy began the Social Emotional Learning: Skill of the Month program for this school year.
Each month on the first Monday (or Tuesday if there is a 3-day weekend) during advisory, a new theme is introduced to help all students learn coping skills, build resiliency, and relationship skills. These themes fall under five areas: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making. Each subsequent Monday will feature a supplemental lesson on the monthly topic.
September's theme is School Survival Skills.
We ask parents to read through the monthly SEL newsletter that we will post here, so that you have an idea of what we are discussing with your students at school. Take the opportunity to ask your students what they are learning and discuss together how they can apply the lessons in their own lives. If you can help us reinforce these principles at home, this program will be all the more effective!
